Bloom Stride

Meet Stride – Bloom’s latest material innovation, providing the performance you expect from traditional TPR materials, now with positive environmental impacts.

TPRs utilizing Bloom’s algae technology deliver striking performance values, which make them excellent replacements for conventional thermoplastic rubbers.

Algae’s natural thermoplastic qualities allow Stride to meet, and in some cases exceed performance characteristics of conventional TPR.

APPLICATIONS

Stride by Bloom is an algae-blended resin containing a significant fraction of algae biomass and bio-based additives.  Stride has a renewable content of at least 45%, offsetting a significant portion of traditional TPR required for footwear manufacturing.

Why does Stride contain algae?

Algae is the fastest growing plant on Earth, and it is a vital component of aquatic ecosystems. However, the rise in global temperatures, excess nutrient runoff, and human activities have contributed to an uncontrollable rise in algae growth in ecosystems around the world—harming plant, animal, and even human life.

Bloom decided to turn that negative into a positive by utilizing excess algae biomass harvested from ecosystems in need of algae management. Algae biomass does not require fossil fuel or arable land to grow, making it the perfect resource for creating useful materials.

By implementing algae biomass into performance products around the world, Bloom has created a strong market and efficient supply chain for algae as a sustainable resource, all the while helping create and maintain healthy ecosystems.

Lifecycle Assessment Overview

In keeping with our transparency in supply chain initiatives, BLOOM commissioned a complete, peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to help brands and consumers grasp the impact of using algae from cleaning water. An LCA is a data-based approach to measuring environmental impacts in five impact categories.

The algae-based thermoplastic manufacturing process was methodically analyzed at every step from algae harvesting to plastic production so that it could be compared to traditional EVA. This graph taken from our LCA shows that Stride by Bloom has 20-41% fewer impacts in all impact categories compared to EVA.

Simplifying the Story

While the data behind the LCA is compelling, the five impact categories can be difficult for a consumer to grasp. BLOOM’s Clean Water + Clean Air Certification uses data from the climate change and water categories to communicate impacts consumers care about, using every-day items.

The product-specific impact metrics allows brands to easily communicate to their customers the benefits of using their products.

With your Clean Water + Clean Air Certification, the BLOOM story is easy to adopt into existing sustainability initiatives and communications to consumers.

MEASURE YOUR IMPACT.

Through Bloom’s Eco-Facts certification process, you and your customer can know the direct impact your product has made on the environment.

HOW TO WORK WITH

Bloom

1

DESIGN YOUR PRODUCT

Design a product that would traditionally include petroleum-based materials (like EVA, TPR, etc). Don’t worry, our materials work seamlessly with standard manufacturing processes.

2

ADD A BLOOM MATERIAL TECHNOLOGY

Add Bloom to your supply chain either by working with an existing Bloom factory partner or by reaching out to
us to onboard a new factory.

3

WORK WITH YOUR FACTORY TO SPEC IN A BLOOM COMPONENT

Use our most common formulas to develop your tech pack using Bloom masterbatch OR your factory can develop a custom formula that meets your specific needs.

4

GET YOUR CERTIFIED BLOOM ECO-FACTS

Once your formula is in place – reach out to us! We can work with you and your factory to forecast your masterbatch needs and to begin the certification process for your Bloom eco-facts.

5

LAUNCH YOUR PRODUCT!

1. Use your eco-facts to prove the positive environmental impacts of your product.
2. Reach out to us to receive marketing visuals and materials for sharing the Bloom eco-story.
3. Let us know when you’re going live! We love to promote our brand partners.
